Meriwether Lewis Clark, the Founder of Churchill Downs
Here is an interesting article on the early history of Churchill Downs and "Lutie" Clark. The "Colonel" was a larger than life character whose story would be an interesting biography. Some of his life is captured in a chapter in Elizabeth Mitchell's Three Strides Before the Wire.
