I looked a bit at yesterday's Pick Six at Hollywood (not to handicap - I think my Pick 6 playing days are over as my bankroll is too small) and came up with the following tables. In case you have been out of touch, the progressive pool grew to $3,274,505 to which an additional $7,596,347 was bet. The pool, net of the 20.68% takeout, was $9,229,927. The big carryover created an expected return of $1.22 per dollar wager. The payoff of $576,065.40 for the 13 holders of winning tickets was almost eight times greater than a parlay of win bets. In the final leg yesterday I was rooting for 1 Uncle Bucky, a hopeless longshot, to extend the carryover one more day. Instead 9 Extreme Notice ($39.80) nosed out 2 Oh Shine under the wire. The morning line had Extreme Notice at 8/1 but bettors in each pool ignored this and he was sent off at 18.90/1 in the Win pool and 22.70/1 in the Pick Six pool (among live tickets).
