Grrrrrrr (Curlin out of the Travers)
I don't even know what to say. I have become so exasperated with trainers not running their horses.
Curlin is out of the Travers because trainer Steve Asmussen believes that Saratoga doesn't fit his horse's running style (like Monmouth?) and he doesn't want to overrace him (Curlin has only raced seven times in his entire life). Curlin will likely next appear in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
See if you can figure out what the hell Asmussen is talking about -
The reason the Jockey Club is a lot more attractive to me than the Travers is how well he ran at Belmont. Even without having success, the fact that he ran well over it, he came out of it good and he hasn't run at Saratoga, which isn't exactly kind to most racehorses. I've had horses run down up here that have run several times and never run down, and horses that have bled up here that don't even work on Lasix. That's not an area I'm looking to go into with what I have planned for him at the end of the year.
So is the Saratoga main track tough on horses? I've not heard this before.
Will we ever see Curlin vs Street Sense vs Any Given Saturday vs Nobiz Like Shobiz vs Hard Spun again?
I'd put it at 100-1 to see all five in the same race, 10-1 to see any three, and even money on any two.
