Friday's Breeders' Cup Picks

Filly & Mare Sprint
Who will I bet?
Let's start the '09 BC by tossing all the favorites and taking bombs. 8 Tiz Elemental (20-1) is 5 of 11 lifetime, 3 of 7 on the synthetics and has a good late closing kick. 9 Dearest Trickski (15-1) loves to win. She has won 7 of 8 (all on synthetics) since claimed by top California trainer John Sadler. She is a Grade I winner and should be the controlling speed. What more do you need? Need a real bomb? What about 13 Tizzy's Tune (30-1)? She was a neck behind 3 Intangaroo in January. She won last out on the Pro-Ride and should relish 7 furlongs.

Who will I root for?
5 Indian Blessing is a terrible bet but she is the best horse in the field and would be a legitimate 3 to 5 on the dirt. I always cheer for horses from the Matchem sire line and we have a load of them in this year's BC, mostly thanks to Tiznow who is becoming a superstar despite the fact that I wrote him off a few years back. In this race we have 8 Tiz Elemental (by Cee's Tizzy) and 13 Tizzy's Tune (by Tiznow).

Juvenile Filly Turf
That this race is a Breeders' Cup race is a complete joke. It was written to draw the Euros but not one of the three shippers from across the pond is a stakes winner. They are giving $1 million to these horses (twice what is going to the marathoners tomorrow)? Will we ever hear from any of them after today? I doubt it. Betting wise I'm taking a pure pedigree stab by taking 7 Consequence (8-1) and 11 Saucy Evening (9-2). Wish I had more to offer.

Who will I root for?
None

Juvenile Fillies
10 Stardom Bound (2-1) looks to be much the best here. The only concern is that she might have traffic trouble negotiating her way through a 13 horse field. However she did run by 21 horses in her last two starts, both Grade I wins over the synthetics. 8 C. S. Silk (15-1) ran a big race in the Arlington-Washington Lassie, gunning to the lead and then opening up on the field in the stretch. 1 Evita Argentina (15-1) beat Stardom Bound sprinting and has been freshened for a big effort by John Sadler.

Who will I root for?
9 Palacio De Amor is trained by Korean born Myung Kwon Cho. (I'm half-Korean - my mom's grandparents came from Korea to Hawaii in 1905).

Filly & Mare Turf
5 Wait A While (3-1) just keeps winning. She is Pletcher's go to horse. When Pletcher needed a winner last year at Saratoga she came up big at 3-1. This year her only loss was on a course rated as good at Belmont Park. On the hard golf course green that is the Santa Anita turf course, she'll be fine (3 for 3 lifetime here). 8 Halfway to Heaven (4-1) has three Group I wins and is just a few lengths slower than superfilly Zarkava. 10 Pure Clan (15-1) has a punchers chance and will be a bomb.

Who will I root for?
I am a big Point Given fan and still believe he was the best US horse this decade (best world horse was Makybe Diva) so I will root for 1 Sealy Hill.

Distaff
1 Zenyatta (3-5) will have her way with this field. I would've bet her in tomorrow's Classic.

Who will I root for?
8 Bear Now is by Tiznow.

You no good bum! I would be retired now if you would not have talked me off of Forever Together! Now I suppose Saturday you'll tell us to do a bridge jumper on Curlin!
