Barbaro/Sir Barton Stakes

I can't wait for tomorrow's Preakness Stakes. I've never been more excited about the middle jewel than tomorrow's showdown between Rachel Alexandra and the Derby horses. Unfortunately the rest of the card is bland. The Woodlawn Stakes, race 9 on the card and the opening leg of the Pick 4 that culminates with the Preakness, is awful. Affirmatif is morning line 3/5 favorite coming out of a second place finish in an N1X allowance. I would stand against him but the other nine are bums. The Grade III William Donald Schaefer for older horses figured to draw a stronger field since the Grade I Pimlico Special was canceled. Instead it drew just seven horses, only one of whom is a graded stakes winner.  Management also canceled the Barbaro/Sir Barton Stakes for 3yo at 1 1/16. This race typically generated competitive fields and was a stepping stone to the Belmont Stakes. 2008 Belmont winner Da Tara was second in the Barbaro Stakes to Roman Emperor. In 2002 Sarava won the Sir Barton Stakes before taking the Belmont at 70 to 1. For me the race had special significance because it was a part of my first signer (W2G). In 2003 I singled Best Minister in the Sir Barton, Funny Cide in the Preakness and spread in the middle. I hit for $2400.
