Looks like there was a major dry spell between 1960-1972 (are there no notable Derbies from the '60s?)

1961 - What about Carry Back as a crowd favorite? Rags to riches Carry Back had no pedigree whatsoever yet won 14 stakes and over $1.2 million for owner-trainer-breeder Jack Price. He was elected to the Hall Fame in 1975.

1964 - Northern Dancer was arguably most important sire of the 20th century.

1969 - Majestic Prince won nine of ten lifetime and made Johnny Longden the only person to ride and train a Derby winner.

1971 - People compare Mine That Bird's improbable upset to Venezuela's Canonero II.
